5 Reasons to Get Invisalign That Have Nothing to Do with Cosmetics
December 18, 2019
If you have crooked teeth or an overbite or underbite, you’ve probably heard of Invisalign as a way to correct these problems without having to wear traditional braces and being called a metal-mouth. However, nearly unnoticeable treatment is far from the only benefit of Invisalign in Sunnyvale. Let’s discuss a few other reasons to get Invisalign that have nothing to do with how it looks.
1. Double as Protective Gear for Life
If you play sports, it’s highly recommended that you wear some kind of mouthguard to protect your pearly whites from injury due to impact. You could invest in one made by your dentist in Sunnyvale, or you could simply keep your last Invisalign tray to provide some protection during physical activities. You could also wear your aligners to bed to prevent damage from grinding your teeth at night. Plus, they’ll keep your teeth straight at the same time!
2. Improve Speech
The way you pronounce worlds is largely determined by the positioning of your teeth. If you have an open bite or gap between your two front teeth, you might lisp or whistle when you try to say certain words. Invisalign can move your teeth into the proper alignment and vastly improve your speaking voice.
3. Easier Brushing and Flossing
When your teeth are overcrowded or twisted, it’s much harder for them to clean, both for you and the dental hygienist. Essentially, your toothbrush and floss become ineffective, allowing dangerous bacteria to escape and wreak havoc on your teeth and gums. This increases your risk of developing decay or gum disease. Teeth straightened by Invisalign are significantly easier to clean.
4. More Efficient Digestion
Your mouth is the first stage of your digestive system. It’s crucial that this process gets off to a great start. When your teeth aren’t able to chew your food properly due to misalignment, you essentially don’t get all the nutrients you need from your food, leading to malnutrition.
5. Proper Jaw Positioning
If you have a jaw issue like an overbite, underbite, open bite, or crossbite, that can place serious pressure on your temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This is the joint just under and in front of your ear that allows you to open and close your jaw. When your upper and lower jaws don’t line up correctly, it may lead to TMJ disorder, which can cause jaw clenching, teeth grinding, joint pain, clicking and popping. Grinding in particular may even wear down your teeth, increasing your risk for decay and sensitivity. Invisalign can correct all of these jaw alignment issues.
Straightening your smile with Invisalign is about much more than just the aesthetics of your treatment. As you can see, it can leave your smile healthier and happier.
